Compass & Light: A Series on Mental Health
Seven Videos on Mental Health Topics from Silent Images
Many people in our culture have personal or indirect experience with some form of mental health. We may think of Suicide, Depression or Bi-Polar Disorder when the term “mental health” is mentioned in conversation. Yet other disorders, such as Anorexia or Bulimia, are also considered part of the “mental health” spectrum.
Often, victims of mental health disorders suffer in silence, hiding behaviors indicative of a more serious and treatable illness. However, with awareness comes knowledge. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention notes, “it’s important to note that most people who actively manage their mental health conditions go on to engage in life.” Knowing about behavior and behavior patterns is one of the first steps in getting help for yourself or another person.
In order to dismantle the stigma and shame accompanying mental health illness, Silent Images has created a short video series. This series highlights seven different mental health issues. Each video is between 13 and 30 minutes in length and allows the viewer to listen to the struggles faced by those who suffer from these illness:

Silent Images also explores the lives of people in Charlotte, NC and around the world, by telling their stories through video and photography. The hope is…”by listening to each other’s stories and being empowered to share our own we can create a community of compassion and action.” So take a few minutes to watch, listen and learn from others.
