In this session, I’ll be addressing the connection between Sin, Stress and Health. I want you to be fully aware of the impact that poorly managed stress can have on your whole-person health. I’ll be addressing different categories of stress and encourage you to identify what significant stressors may be present in your life.

  • Sickness & disease is a consequence of living in a fallen world 
  • Personal disobedience & rebellion has consequences
  • Sicknesses, illnesses & diseases may occur
    • Directly from God 
      • As discipline
      • To teach us something
      • As a trial so we can grow and mature in our faith 

○    As a result of our sinful lifestyle choices

○    Indirectly through our physiological reactions

  • Repentance can facilitate healing

  • People pleasing 

 

Lifestyle Choices 

  • Sleeping habits
  • Time use habits
  • Spending habits
  • Physical activity habits
  • Eating and drinking habits  
  • Work habits 

 

External Stressors (Often Beyond Our Control) 

Inconvenience

  • Lost keys
  • Weather
  • Traffic
  • Unexpected emergencies
  • Running late

 

Chronic Issues 

  • Disease & Disability
  • Job security
  • Financial security 
  • Single parent home
  • Fatherless home
  • Poverty & Crime
  • Relationship conflicts (marriage, parenting, work, friends) 

 

Life Events & Transitions 

  • Birth of a baby
  • Life trauma (abuse, dysfunctional home) 
  • Losses
  • Death of a loved one 
  • Divorce

Some of these stressors may wound the soul/spirit.
