Bible Study Part #1

The Genesis of Health – Our Identity

Gen 3:17-19 “And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Cursed To Work

Adam is cursed to work for that which he was originally given, meaning?

  • Originally given good food and good health. Now we sweat and toil for it.
  • Sin entered Adam, thereby, allowing sin to pass through generations. (See Romans 5)

This means…WAR!

One of the enemy’s favorite things to do is destroy the image of God (Genesis 1:27). So, as long as we are on this earth, we will battle against our enemy, Satan.

So let’s consider the military. Have you ever encountered a weak and reticent soldier? The answer is No. The military is properly trained for the battlefield. Christian leaders and the military have a number of things in common. Both depend upon strength, endurance, agility, power, and stamina.

Both require mental fitness, emotional fitness, spiritual fitness, and physical fitness. Also, both require a team, a community. These are essential parts of the general physical skill set we will be teaching as we train throughout our 12 weeks together.

Our Mission?

We must be Faithful In Training so we can be fit for the mission. God’s mission to believers is clear.

Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

God gives every believer gifts and talents that are to be used to build up the body of Christ. So, if we are to fulfill this mission, we must be FiT in all five areas of health and wellness.

Be strong soldiers to fulfill the mission God has set before each of you. Our enemy works around the clock to seek, kill and destroy our self-image, our worth, and our value (1 Peter 5:8)

Be prepared. Continually train and stand at the ready and, as a result, learn to lead others to do the same.

So….

Christians, take up your cross.

MissionFiT, Prepare them!

  1. So, are you equipped and ready for day-to-day battle with the enemy and his wicked army? Why or why not? Take an inventory.
  2. What grade do you give yourself in each of the 5 areas of health and wellness: Mental, Emotional, Physical, Spiritual, Social Why that grade? Think about how you can improve in one or more areas?

Godspeed,

The MissionFiT Team
