This Testimony Tuesday we celebrate athlete Jackie Lawing, for two reasons. One, she has been a wonderful athlete to have in class with her perky little personality. And two, this amazing woman after 19 years of serving at Carmel Baptist Wee School is retiring. We know she will be greatly missed but are cheering her on into this next season of life.
I am Jackie Lawing
and I’ve been married to Tom, my high school sweetheart, for 40 years. We have two grown children, Jason, our son and a daughter, Kelly. They are both married and we have four grandchildren–Hunter (8), Ryder (4), Avery (3), and Jaxon (15 months)–all live in Charlotte. I’ve worked for Wee School since 1990, for 5 years teaching 4s, and in the office since 1995. We are members of Forest Hill Church in Waxhaw.
When I think of my fitness journey,
the three words that come to mind are: motivated, eager, and willing. In relation to my fitness journey, time is my biggest obstacle. However, I’m committed to walking with my husband (for his health and mine) at least five times a week, with each walk about an hour in duration. We really enjoy these walks together and Tom is my personal support system. Aside from personal relationships, my primary motivation in pursuing fitness and wellness is my desire for a healthy body and active lifestyle to assure that I’m able to do things with my grandchildren and be there to help them.
Initially, I didn’t realize that there was a connection between faith and health,
but now as I proceed through the MissionFiT program it is becoming more apparent to me. If I were asked the merits of beginning a fitness journey, my advice would be that everyone needs to commit whatever time they can to keeping mobile and fit. This is a very important commitment to improve the way they feel and prevent disease. I would also stress the importance of getting adequate and consistent sleep for general well-being.
