Do You “Remember Your Body”?

Recently, Pastor David Chadwick, wrote a piece about rest.  Not just sleep, mind you.  But real rest.  Body, Mind and Soul.  These days, hours are filled with decisions we have to make because of circumstances we can’t control.  After you “remember” to do everything else, you may be too tired to remember your body.  Let’s take a few minutes, sit down, breathe in and remember our bodies.

What Does the Bible Teach?

The Bible teaches that every human has a body, soul, and spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:23).  Each division of the human personality is interconnected.  What happens in one area affects the others.Elijah Being Fed by the Ravens

Today, be especially aware of the connection between taking care of your body and knowing freedom from anxiety.  Amid the prophet Elijah’s deep depression, one that contemplated death, God restored him by first meeting his body’s physical needs (1 Kings 19).

What did God do with Elijah?

First, God put him to sleep.  Then he fed him.  Next, he was given lots of water.  God’s cure for Elijah’s anxious depression was to remember his body.  To get plenty of rest, eat well, and drink lots of water.

And there is one more discipline to remember that’s not necessarily in Elijah’s narrative.  What is it?

Exercise?

You must also exercise – it relieves stress like nothing else.  Exercise improves your memory, strengthens your heart, helps you sleep better, and encourages a positive mental attitude.  Not only can regular exercise add years to your life, it can make your present years more meaningful and enjoyable.

Heslthy Mind & Body - When you Remember Your BodyDrink a lot of water.  Eat good food.  Get enough sleep, and exercise often.

When you practice these disciplines regularly, your body, soul, and spirit are well cared for, and ready for each new day.

God needs people with healthy minds, bodies, and emotions to accomplish his purposes.

Always remember your body.  Take care of it!  When it’s healthy, you have more ammunition to cure anxiety and depression.
